Board Minutes, July 23, 2026

President Doll called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 
Hutchison reported that the Friends of the Library earned approximately $900.00 at their July 2026 book sale and will hold their next sale the weekend of the Barberton Mum Festival, September 25-26, 2026. 
Moved by Wise, seconded by Leonard, to accept the minutes of the June 2026 Public Records Commission and Board meetings. Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Motion carried.

¬Director’s Report
Circulation: Hutchison reviewed the June 2026 statistics. 
Programs & Publicity: Hutchison distributed the publicity packet and highlighted several recent and upcoming programs of note.
Donations: Gifts were received from the following individuals and organizations in June 2026: Kiwanis Club of Barberton, $200.00, to be used for Children's SRC; Magic City Kiwanis,     $1,000.00, to be used for Children's SRC; In memory of Linda Moyers, $375; Rotary Club of Barberton, $500.00, to be used for Children's SRC; Glennis Siegfried, Barberton's First Cookbook: 125 of culinary magic by Stephen Kelleher; Carol Srole, Marriage Making News: Working women and millionaire men in the Progressive Era by Carole Srole. 
Moved by McMullen, seconded by Leonard, to accept the donations. Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Motion carried. 
Mission Moment: Hutchison shared information about a new book club, Stories from the Margins, that BPL will cohost with Calibrations Counseling and Consultation. The book club is intended for readers of all abilities and will feature stories from unique and diverse voices. 
Other: Hutchison shared information about Summer Reading Challenge and Barberton’s Labor Day parade.

Fiscal Officer’s Report
The Public Library Fund tax distribution for June 2026 for the Barberton Public Library was $94,545.36. 
Brickner reviewed the financial reports, bank reconciliations, reappropriations, and bills paid for the month of June 2026. 
Moved by Leonard, seconded by Wise, to accept the financial reports, bank reconciliations, reappropriations, and bills paid for the month of June 2026. Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Motion carried.
Brickner informed the Board that the IRS had increased their standard mileage reimbursement rate from 72.5¢ to 76¢, effective July 1, 2026. 
Resolution 13-2026: Moved by McMullen, seconded by Wise, to allow mileage reimbursement of Library-approved use of a private vehicle at the rate of 76¢ per business mile driven, as adopted by the Internal Revenue Service, effective July 1, 2026. Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Resolution adopted.

Building and Equipment Committee: No meeting was held. 
Finance and Audit Committee: No meeting was held.
Personnel Committee: No meeting was held. 
Summit County Trustees Council: No meeting was held.

Communications and Correspondence
OLC Legislative Update: None. 
Community Correspondence: None. 

Old Business
Hutchison requested that a Personnel Committee meeting be scheduled to discuss the Employee Handbook and Operating Manual. 
Hutchison informed the Board that the Trustee vacancy had been posted, but no applications had been received. 
New Business 
Hutchison presented the Board with several staffing updates and recommendations. 
Moved by McMullen, seconded by Wise, to accept the resignation of Library Assistant Shayna Blair, effective July 31, 2026.  Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Motion carried. 
Moved by McMullen, seconded by Wise, to accept the resignation of Marketing Manager Chloe Zofchak, effective August 7, 2026.  Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Motion carried. 
Resolution 14-2026: Moved by Leonard, seconded by McMullen, to promote Brittany Simboli to full-time Marketing Manager, regularly scheduled at 35 hours per week, effective August 3, 2026.  Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Resolution adopted.
Resolution 15-2026: Moved by McMullen, seconded by Leonard, to hire full-time Customer Services Manager Teresa Thompson, effective August 10, 2026. Ayes: Doll, Leonard, McMullen, and Wise. Nays: None. Resolution adopted.
