September 2017 - Revenge of the Star Survivors by Michael Merschel

“Mayday…Mayday …
This is a Priority One distress call.
Can anyone hear me?
Anyone?

My situation is desperate.  I have crash-landed on an inhospitable world.  Communication with my commanders has broken down.  My shields have been compromised.  I am critically short on vital supplies.  I am isolated.  Adrift.  Cold.
Lonely.”
pg. 1 Clark Sherman – Revenge of the Star Survivors by Michael Merschel

Halfway through eighth grade, Clark Sherman’s dad got a new job, “In a big new city, a thousand miles to the east and a mile higher than our home base.” (pg. 11)  Now Clark has to start all over at a new middle school, but, he’s done his research and he’s ready to meet his new classmates.  Unfortunately things don’t go according to plan.  His clothes are all wrong, there’s a mix-up with his records from his old school and now he’s stuck in remedial classes, he seems to have become the new target of the school bully, and the principal just might be out to get him.  Things are looking pretty bad, but Clark is confident he can fix the problems on his own, so instead of informing his parents, he imagines what the characters from his favorite TV show, Star Survivors, would do.  Things start to look up when he meets two other students who are also Star Survivor fans … but things quickly go back downhill and nothing is going according to plan.  “’The Omegan holy book on the art of war has a verse about our situation: ‘Klavek turo; miktol tuvey; domini kla-tek; vin-tschu.’  The approximate Earth translation would be: ‘We’re up the creek, guys.’ – Commander Steel, Star Survivors Episode 17. ‘The Thanatos Gyre’”

Can Clark get the bullies to leave he and his friends alone?  Can he figure out the mess he’s gotten himself into with the principal?  Most importantly, will he survive in one piece? Read Revenge of the Star Survivors by Michael Merschel and find out if Clark can complete his mission.
