Board Minutes, June 25, 2026

Also Present: Ann Hutchison, Director; Josh Brickner, Fiscal Officer; Melissa Futrell, Deputy Fiscal Officer; Alison Huey, Children’s Services Manager

President Doll called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. 
Hutchison reported that the Friends of the Library would hold their next book sale on July 10 - 11, 2026. 
Moved by Perry, seconded by Leonard, to accept the minutes of the May 2026 Board meeting. Ayes: Cheatham, Doll, Leonard, and Perry. Nays: None. Motion carried.

Director’s Report
Department Update: Huey provided a Children’s Department update, including information about Summer Reading Challenge, programming, outreach, and community collaborations. 
Huey left the meeting at 6:35 p.m. 
Circulation: Hutchison reviewed the May 2026 statistics. 
Programs & Publicity: Hutchison distributed the May 2026 publicity packet and highlighted several recent and upcoming programs of note.
Donations: Gifts were received from the following individuals and organizations in May 2026: Linda Moyers, $130.00; Tuesday Study Club, $150.00.
Moved by Perry, seconded by Cheatham, to accept the donations. Ayes: Cheatham, Doll, Leonard, and Perry. Nays: None. Motion carried. 
Other: Hutchison shared information about a recent community event attended by several staff and Board members.  

Fiscal Officer’s Report
The Public Library Fund tax distribution for May 2026 for the Barberton Public Library was $94,545.36. 
Brickner reviewed the financial reports, bank reconciliations, reappropriations, and bills paid for the month of May 2026. 
Moved by Cheatham, seconded by Leonard, to accept the financial reports, bank reconciliations, reappropriations, and bills paid for the month of May 2026. Ayes: Cheatham, Doll, Leonard, and Perry. Nays: None. Motion carried.

Committee Reports
Building and Equipment Committee: No meeting was held. 
Finance and Audit Committee: No meeting was held.
Personnel Committee: No meeting was held. 
Summit County Trustees Council: No meeting was held.

Communications and Correspondence 
OLC Legislative Update: Brickner informed the Board that the Ax Ohio Tax organization failed to collect enough signatures to place their constitutional amendment proposal to eliminate all Ohio property taxes on the November 2026 ballot. 
Community Correspondence: None. 

Old Business
Hutchison requested that a Personnel Committee meeting be scheduled in July to discuss the Employee Handbook and Operating Manual. 
Hutchison informed the Board that the Trustee vacancy left by C. Racyne Leskanic’s term expiration on June 30, 2026 would be advertised beginning Monday, June 29.

New Business 
Moved by Perry, seconded by Leonard, to accept the resignation of Customer Services Manager David Roberts, effective June 12, 2026.  Ayes: Cheatham, Doll, Leonard, and Perry. Nays: None. Motion carried. 
Hutchison presented the Board with a proposed draft of a new Cybersecurity Policy, as required by Ohio Law. 
Resolution 12-2026: Moved by Cheatham, seconded by Perry, to adopt the Cybersecurity Policy as presented, effective June 30, 2026. Ayes: Cheatham, Doll, Leonard, and Perry. Nays: None. Resolution adopted.
Hutchison informed the Board that the Library had received notification of a liquor permit transfer for an existing business to new ownership for 618 Wooster, LLC.

Moved by Perry to adjourn the meeting at 6:53 p.m.
