Foundation Center The Foundation Center is the most authoritative source of information on private philanthropy in the United States. The Center helps grantseekers, grantmakers, researchers, policymakers, the media and the general public better understand the field of philanthropy.
Grants for Individuals Created and run by Michigan State University, this site provides links with grant and scholarship information for individuals,divided by population group, academic levels, and subjects. Much of it is for studetns, but some, like the links to the arts and music, are useful to nonstudents, too.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance Porvides access to a database of Federal programs that are available to states, local municipalities, nonprofits and individuals.
Government May Owe You Money This site is for those who believe they may be owed money by the government (for federally insured mortgages, pensions from failed companies, savings bonds, settlements from class action law suits by federal employees, etc.).
Unclaimed Property Check this site for unclaimed properties by state. This site is operated by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.

Housing
Fannie Mae Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are suspending foreclosures on some delinquent properties for which they hold the mortgage or securities for the mortgage. For more information, call their toll-free number 1-800-732-6643.
HUD Homes Check out this site for a list of programs from the federal government, including lower-interest mortgages, mortagage guarantees, HUD homes and counseling. This site is operated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. A HUD program exists to encourage police officers, K-12 teachers, firefighters, and EMS technicians to live in areas that need revitalization. The Good Neighbor Next Door Program sells HUD homes in revitalization areas for a 50% discount to those in the professions listed above, if they commit to the house as their permanent sole residence for 36 months.
Community Action Agencies Created as a part of Lyndon Johnson's Great Society, this program offers help with energy assistance, housing and business assistance in local communities.

Small Business Innovation Research This site is sponsored by the Small Business Administration. Intended for small business development, this site guides users to the SBA programs.
Medical Care & Disabilities
Needymeds Check out this site for those who need aid to pay for prescriptions but are not covered by government programs or private insurance. Qualifications may vary by company/manufacturer.
RXAssist This is another source to seek out for help in paying for prescription medications.
Together Rx Created by several major drug manufacturers, this site is for those under 65 and have no other private or public drug coverage. There are restrictions regarding income as well.
Sight for Students This is a VSP(Vision Service Plan)charity program that provides free vision exams and glasses to low-income, uninsured children.

Veterans The Veterans Administration has excellent information on veterans' programs and benefits. Also, ask the librarian for the latest copy of What Every Veteran Should Know, an annual publication by the Veterans' Information Service on benefits, education, housing, health care, homeless veterans, etc.
