Beginning February 1, 2012, Barberton Public Library cardholders can download three free MP3 digital music files every week from the Sony catalogue. Users may choose songs from popular artists from every era and genre, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, and Ozzy Osbourne, as well as other current popular artists.
Any person with a Barberton Public Library card can get started building their own music collection by visiting www.barbertonlibrary.org and clicking on the Freegal Music icon. The process is fast, simple, and easy to use. Once a cardholder downloads a song, the file does not expire or need to be “returned” to the library.
“We’re very pleased to be able to offer library users access to this new service,” said library director Julianne Bedel. She notes that the Library chose to add this resource in order to meet increased customer demand for more downloadable eMedia. “Because of our partnership with other libraries in the Clevnet consortium,” Bedel said, “the price that the library will pay for this resource is significantly lower than we could have negotiated on our own.”
Each MP3 music download is DRM-free which means it is compatible with any device, including iPods, MP3 players, and both Mac and PC computers regardless of the operating system and/or browser. In addition, there is no software installation required, making it easy and convenient to download your favorite songs.
