Appointed by, and reporting directly to, the Board of Trustees, the Director administers all library activities, including planning, budgeting and fiscal management, personnel activities, public relations, facilities maintenance, collection development and management and evaluation of library services.

Julianne Bedel earned a bachelor of arts degree in business and organizational communication from The University of Akron, and a master of library and information science degree from Kent State University.

Julianne has been Director of the Barberton Public Library since 2007. Prior to this appointment, she was the Children’s and Outreach Services Manager for the Wadsworth Public Library. Julianne first began working in the public library setting as support staff at the Akron-Summit County Public Library.

Presently, Julianne is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Barberton, where she serves on the Board of Directors. She is also a member of the Barberton Chamber of Commerce and actively seeks out opportunities to become involved in the local community.

Julianne is a member of the American Library Association as well as the Ohio Library Council. She is a past recipient of the OLC John J. Philip Outreach Award. She has served in many capacities including Outreach Division Coordinator, Expo Committee Chairperson, and Marketing and Public Relations Division Coordinator. Currently she is serving as the 2012 chairperson for the OLC Membership Committee.
